The 1st Step of a Long Journey — One Day, One Blog

Starting tomorrow, that is , 1st May 2017 — a Monday, I will publish a blog on Medium everyday, for the next 31 days.

Why am I dedicating a blog zero just to make this announcement?

Because, I want you with me throughout this journey. The seed for this was sown at the beginning of this year.

This is how it all started….

On Jan 5th 2017, I made public my new year resolutions. The whole idea was that if I were held accountable for my resolutions, I would be forced to act on it.

One among the 4 resolutions was to write more. I wanted to progress to a level where I published one blog per week. But this is what actually happened.

I spent a lot of time wondering about what to write. I became such a harsh critic of my work that I did not write ( or progress beyond a para or two) for almost 3 weeks. At that point in time, I got a piece of advice from Todd Brison about “Stream-of-consciousness” writing. That made a huge impact on me. It was as though I was given permission to write without being judged.

I still had trouble publishing what I wrote.

You may be familiar with the saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears”. Articles which were full lessons in themselves started appearing before me.

There was:

  • Heidi K. Isern — She gave me a gem of an advice. “First write for yourself
  • Linda Carrol — Her article chronicles all that a new writer on Medium needs to know.
  • Zdravko Cvijetic — An incredibly inspiring tale of the #1 article on Medium
  • Shaunta Grimes — and her story of writing one blog per day for a month. And then this wonderful article by Shaunta where she gives a 4 step plan for starting a daily blogging habit. (Shanuta has a tribe called “Ninja Writers” and she is on a wonderful mission to get people to write more and support each other.)

I was truly inspired to finally make the jump.

And here I am now. I will write one blog EVERY DAY for the next 31 days. Yes, the whole month of May 2017.

I am nervous. At least twice a day, my over cautious brain warns me off all the things that could happen and prevent me from fulfilling this commitment.

But you know what?

All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.Michael John Bobak

So, this is me getting out of my comfort zone. Wish me luck!

I have enjoyed reading and writing ever since I could read and write. I have been told that my words inspire and help people. That gives me the courage to write more.
If my words help you in any way to better your life, I will consider that a blessing.
