India, Cricket & Patriotism
The only form of true patriotism to be found in India is in cricket
Religion, education, politics (duh), beef (yumm) and even the flyover in the neighbourhood splits us into groups and makes us argumentative — not often with the aim of finding the best solution.
Even when the border is attacked, when the soldier is murdered, we still take sides — albeit a short period of silence we follow for the sake of being politically correct. But when it comes to cricket — be it thrashing Pakistan or pulling off a one run win over Bangladesh, we stand united.
